If black is your dominant color (the wall color for example) add some architectural details like crown molding, a picture rail or wainscoting to keep it from looking flat. Use an accent color in a black room to punch it up and keep it from being too stark. Anything goes. Add a bold pink or orange for excitement, baby blue or green for softness, or try gold or silver for glamorous sophistication (mirrored furniture and crystal accents are also great for that "Hollywood glam" look).
Are you getting ready to redesign a bedroom, or throw some new paint up on your living room walls? You may be wondering what neutral colors are in interior design. Neutral Colors. In the context of interior design, neutral means without color. Neutrals such as beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray and shades of white appear to be without color, but in many applications these hues often have undertones. Be aware of these underlying tones as you match colors or choose paint.
Linens. Among the most important "ingredients" in Victorian decor are linens. Use anything with lace, ribbon, embroidery, and ribbons in white or natural. Older or vintage linens can be picked up at thrift stores and yard sales. Discount stores are a good source of inexpensive machine embroidered items as well.
Ornate, rich, and expensive, these are adjectives which usually apply to Victorian home decor. While it can still be ornate and rich, it doesn't have to be expensive. Shopping at thrift stores, and using things that you already possess, you can decorate a Victorian room for less and I can show you how.
