Without a structured philosophy to get you from point A to point Z, you may find yourself lacking one or both aspects of this philosophy in the design process. There is nothing worse than a home with a horrible form and flawed function. The “form follows function” philosophy governs good house designs.
Floor plans are often dictated by or either influence the type of architectural style for a home. This is very important to note in your home plan search. Keep in mind that a floor plan is usually governed by characteristics of the home style.
Once you know which design elements you’re looking to change, take this exercise at step further and ask yourself why you don’t like them. If you can nail down the reasons, it may help you change these factors for the better moving forward. Now, here’s the fun part: the style of your new space! After you have the template of your new design figured out, you’re free to move on to aesthetics.
A very well conceived home design starts with how the home will function from day to day. The residing family will determine that function. The flow of the floor plan should present easy traffic navigation and comfortably sized rooms.
