Wicker. Heavily-carved Victorian antiques can cost more than a budget can bear - unless you inherited Aunt Sadie's parlor set. I suggest using wicker for Victorian designs which are much less expensive. Painted white, these pieces look elegant when accented with those lacy pillows you acquired.
Size and Scale. When using patterns it's important to think about size and scale. The best looking rooms have a mix. For example, try using a large pattern on a large area such as window curtains or on the walls; medium scale patterns on furniture; and small patterns on small items such as throw pillows. (These rules aren't set in stone, use your judgment based on the room, the pattern, and the place you want to use it).
The Victorian era, named for Queen Victoria, who ruled England from 1837 to 1901. This era was marked by peace and prosperity in England, and inspired a new wave of engineering and design. In fact, the influence was felt far and wide, including the United States. You can still see evidence of Victorian-era architecture in cities like San Francisco, where ornate details and color are key.
A Bench or Ottoman. A bench or ottoman is a great piece of furniture to have on hand in case you ever need extra seating. They’re very versatile and can go in many different places such as in an entryway, at the foot of a bed, as part of a living room furniture arrangement, in a dining room or even in a hallway. To get the most out of an ottoman or bench consider one with hidden storage - particularly in an entryway where you can store bags, hats, shoes, and the like.
