Foyer is too small. The first space people see when entering your home is the foyer. If this space is small and dark, well it’s just uninviting. Make your foyer a welcoming event. It doesn’t have to be oversize just comfortable. Keep the start of your staircase a minimum of 5 feet (6 or more if space allows) from the front door. Make the space large enough to fit a small piece of furniture like a chair or console table.
Lighting, another way of designing a house for older generations is to add more lighting. You’ve probably noticed that as you get older your eyesight has diminished. Maybe you used to be able to read in a dimly lit room but now you need better lighting. Your elderly parents are probably experiencing this phenomenon more intensely than you.
Those are our proportions, with respect to our feet and the total height of our body. The same principles of proportion apply to designing a home. What is the proportion of the roof to the height of the rest of the house? How are the windows proportional to the size of the respective wall? How is the door proportional to the rest of the outside wall covering the entrance of the home?
Choosing the right kitchen design ideas. Kitchens are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family. However, they are mainly used as a food prep, cooking, and cleaning area. This is why choosing the right kitchen design is one of the most important tasks in designing a house. Search for more kitchen design ideas in print and on the web. Gather ideas so that you can develop a design that will suit their needs.
