Details on window treatments are simple. Contrast lining fabric peeking out from the sides, cording or wide contrast banding, or tab tops with buttons or ribbon details dress up the window but not too much! Add a simple swag of fabric or fabric tie-backs if you must. Floors in a casual style room are hardwood, tile, stone, or stained concrete. If carpet is used, it should not be too plush. Rather chose sisal, berber, or long, shaggy styles or subtle geometric woven patterns.
Use Paint. It's no secret that paint is the budget decorator's number one tool in transforming a space. With just a few dollars and a little elbow grease a whole room can be given an entirely new look.
Boxes. Small boxes or tins dressed up with fabric and old ribbon and lace remnants look wonderful displayed in your Victorian room. Beads and rhinestones from old broken jewelry are also a great way to add glamour to your room. Rose china. Mismatched china or hand-painted plates from thrift stores grouped to create a wall display will add a romantic touch to your new Victorian decor. The floral themes bring a nostalgic look.
Of course, just because you love the look of a formal interior doesn't mean that it will suit your home or lifestyle. Create a Formal Home for Today's Living. Soften tightly upholstered furniture pieces with decorative, comfortable pillows.
